College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

This position is being created to increase HIV testing and linkage to prevention and care, especially among the LGTBQ+ community and their partners in the CSRA. The focus will be on providing testing opportunities in the community in a variety of possible venues including a mobile testing van, LGBTQ+ nightclubs (EDGE Nightclub), churches, emergency shelters, etc. The goal will be to develop community relationships that create safe spaces for HIV testing, support and linkage to care.

Responsibilities

Outreach -

Strengthen relationships with community events, organizers, churches, nightclubs, housing agencies and emergency shelters, etc that serve at risk individuals including minorities and the LGTBQ+ community and their partners. Promote the benefits of HIV testing and opportunities for testing through social media, especially those used the LGTBQ+ community including social networking apps.

Linkage -
Follow-up and provide outreach to individual who missed appointment for HIV prevention or care services to help link to care. Provide outreach to individuals previously engaged in care who has not been seen in 12 months to re-establish care including text messaging, phone calls and community visits.

Education -
Provide education and training to primary care, family medicine and Emergency Department clinicians on the recommendations for routine HIV testing and other clinical indications for HIV testing.

Testing -
Provide INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 Antibody test to any individual, including partners of HIV-positive individuals seen at in clinic.Provide education to individual with negative INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 on risk reduction, condom use and appointment to receive PrEP services in Augusta. Provide education to individual with positive INSTI HIV-1/HIV-2 and timely appointment with HIV provider.

Additional Responsibilities -
Collaborate with DPH and other community organizations on HIV testing and prevention activities. And enlist support and involvement of other trusted community voices to encourage and promote HIV testing. Collect and report data monthly on HIV test results and successful linkage to care. Participate in professional development opportunities to gain additional skills in advocating for the needs of people living with HIV. Ability to work independently in both non-traditional settings and hours

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or Counseling

OR

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or related field and a minimum of 4 years of community outreach/linkage or related experience

Travel 1%-24% of the time.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days: Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required.)

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
